What is Jay Rome all about?

Updated: Sep 4, 2021

I'm a dual citizen, son of a Canadian & an American, living in the US, so i spent sometime in Ontario & Quebec, as a child. I grew up in beautiful upstate New York and am proud to call home the Adirondacks near Saratoga, Lake George & the Great Sacandaga Lake. I have spent alot of time in Niagara Falls & the Finger Lakes Region, as well as the Capital District of Albany, and a good amount of traveling to and through NYC. Up until 2019, I had never been outside of the NY/New England area, except once to visit family in FL. I had spent time in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts & Rhode Island, usually visiting family or a scenic road-trip.

In my late 20's I began to grow restless with unfulfilling relationships, same scenery, same people, same limited job opportunities, I explored different jobs, and even relocated 90 minutes away from my family, all of my friends, and every job reference i'd ever had, and haven't looked back since. The world is so big and full of opportunities, but they may never come to you, you will have to go to them!

I've spent the last 18 months traveling steadily! The first 12 months I would travel once or twice a month, 2-4 days a week, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays to work around 2-3 of my weekend Restaurant jobs. The last 6 months I've been on paid vacation from the US Government due to COVID closing all 3 of my restaurant gigs and the Mall I worked at. At first I was afraid to travel during COVID, but now, 24 states later, I am proud to say I am exploring the Country while some people are afraid to leave their homes.

Some people only travel for Vacation, and only have a couple days a year so they go all out blowing money on an island or a beach resort somewhere, or they only get to see one or two places a year, a weekend camping with the kids an hour away from home is their summer plans. Some people travel regularly for business, they're usually too busy to enjoy the finer parts of vacation like sleeping in til 10am in a comfy air-conditioned bed & breakfast on the beach, or random strolls through the park or all-night block parties til 3am, too busy waking at 7am and hunting for a Starbucks.

Not me, when i travel, i go on Adventures! Some times i'll be more active in 3 days off then i will be the 4 days i go back to work. I've walked 30,000+ steps in a day several times when traveling, that's 7 times the average person's daily steps. I'll work 12 hours straight on a busy weekend restaurant serving doubleshift and maybe hit 15-20,000 steps, so 30,000 is a FULL day's work and then some!

I do love beaches, and resorts, and just relaxing, but i'm more likely to spend the day walking around downtown checking out architecture, churches, museums, art murals etc and trying some local food and booze after checking out a Guided Tour, preferably by Boat/Trolley, or I love when cities have Lime Scooters/Bike Shares. If i'm up for it, and its not too far (aka near the Metro), I also love Hiking & Biking. I'm down for the Zoo, I'm here for the Summer Concerts, I'm down to sit somewhere and people watch, or ride the train/bus around the city if it has nice views. I'm a history Buff, so if I can learn something by visiting your city, I'll probably be back!
